request a custom fitHow to measure
Our charts are garment measurements, taken on the piece laid flat, not body measurements. Measure a piece you already own the same way and compare like with like.
Shirts, tops and outerwear
- Chest
- Button the shirt and lay it flat. Measure straight across from side seam to side seam, one inch below the armholes.
- Length
- From the seam at the base of the back collar, straight down the centre back to the hem.
- Bottom
- Straight across the hem, edge to edge, with the shirt still flat.
- Sleeve length
- From the shoulder seam, down the outside of the sleeve, to the edge of the cuff.
- Across shoulder
- Across the back, from one shoulder seam to the other.
Trousers
- Waist and hip
- Across the fastened waistband, then across the widest part of the hip, with the trousers laid flat. Double a flat width to get the full round.
- Inseam and outseam
- The inseam runs from the crotch seam down the inside leg to the hem; the outseam from the top of the waistband down the outside leg to the hem.
- Thigh
- Across the top of the leg, just below the crotch, with the fabric relaxed. Double it for the full round.
UK, US and EU sizes
We label our pieces S to 4XL. If you usually shop by a number instead, this is how those numbers line up for shirts, tops and jackets.
| Our size | S | M | L | XL | XXL | 3XL | 4XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UK / US | 36 | 38 | 40 | 42 | 44 | 46 | 48 |
| EU | 46 | 48 | 50 | 52 | 54 | 56 | 58 |
- UK and US
- For menswear tops the two use the same numbers: the chest in inches. A 38 is a 38 in London and in New York, and many Indian labels follow the same scale.
- EU
- European tops and jackets run ten above the UK number, so a UK 38 is an EU 48. For trousers the EU number is about sixteen above the waist in inches: a 32 waist is an EU 48.
- Womenswear labels
- Our pieces are cut to be worn by anyone. If you usually buy womenswear, the scales differ again: a UK 10 is a US 6 and an EU 38. Go by the chest and shoulder in our charts rather than the label.
Fit tips
Start from a piece you love
The surest guide is a shirt that already fits the way you like. Button it, lay it flat, smooth it without stretching and measure it as above.
Between sizes, go by the shoulder
Length and sleeves can be taken up; the shoulder cannot. Pick the size whose shoulder matches yours, and if the rest is off, write to us.
Allow for layers
For jackets and shackets, measure something you already wear over a shirt or a knit, so there is room for what goes underneath.
Wash as the label says
Cotton and linen can tighten a little if washed hot or tumble dried. A cool wash and line drying keep a piece at the size you bought it.
